Arden Ali

Arden Ali's research spans theoretical and applied ethics, philosophy of action, and philosophy of law. He has written most extensively about moral responsibility, focusing on why people who act under duress or similar coercive circumstances deserve excuses. More recently, his work concerns the ethics of artificial intelligence, especially the ways that machine agents can disrupt our agency. He serves on the Steering Committee for DISHA, a UN-led multi-partner initiative that aims to accelerate ethical and responsible access to data and AI solutions for more far-reaching social benefit. He also serves on the Steering Committee for PIKSI-Boston, one of several summer institutes that seek to elevate and broaden inclusion in academic philosophy.
