Security camera installation
More information about the College鈥檚 maturing security camera program, along with notice that our community will start to see additional security cameras being installed starting this week.
Dear Mount Holyoke campus community,
As we shared in August, the College is moving forward on a number of key action items identified in an external campus safety and security assessment. This was a proactive decision to review our systems, structures and policies.
As shared in August, the College is maturing its security camera program and has developed a Security Camera Acceptable Use Policy. An action group composed of staff from Student Life, Public Safety and Security, LITS and Facilities Management was tasked by the Senior Team to holistically review the College鈥檚 security camera program. That action group, in consultation with an external consultant group, recommended that additional cameras be installed in key areas of the campus to further support the College鈥檚 safety and security systems and structures.
Some of the areas identified by the external review as priority needs were entrances and exits, parking lots and the central corridor of campus. In the next few days, you will start to see security camera installation work happening and 鈥淪ecurity Cameras in Use鈥 signs going up on campus.
We want you to be aware of this work and ensure you know that these security cameras will be placed in a manner that meets the acceptable use policy. There will be cameras that are affixed to the exteriors of residential or academic buildings, the exteriors of administrative buildings and lamp-posts in order to cover the identified area. In accordance with the Security Camera Acceptable Use Policy these cameras are positioned to cover exterior spaces and not private areas.
If you have any questions or feedback as we continue to share updates and engage in this work, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at safety-assessment-feedback-g@mtholyoke.edu.
Warmly,
Marcella Runell, Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students
Lisa Sullivan, Provost and Dean of Faculty
